Golden Temple Visiting Hours

Plan Your Trip

There is no specific time to visit Golden Temple as the temple complex remains open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week which is why it is considered to be one of the most accessible abodes for all kinds of people, regardless of their religion or social standing.  Not only is the temple open 24*7 but even Langar which refers to a food service provided free of cost is also available throughout the day.

Despite the place being open all the time, there are certain events that take place at a stipulated time so if you do not want to miss them, it’s always a good idea to time your visit according to the time of these sacred events.  Amongst the many attractions of visiting the Golden Temple, the most soothing and interesting is the Palki ceremony which refers to the transfer of the Holy Scripture from the sanctum to the Akal Takht. It takes place every morning at 4:15 am and the Palki Sahib is transferred back every night at 10:30 pm. Visiting the place during this time is quite a memorable experience. The Palki ceremony is followed by Ardas and singing of holy songs, making it a good time to be around.

If you are looking for the best time to visit Amritsar, planning a tour during the months of November and April would be perfect as these are the months of two of the most popular Sikh celebrations, namely Guru Nanak Jayanti and Baisakhi so the city is soaked in festivities and a vibrant aura which will make your Amritsar excursions most enjoyable.
